Abstract

Repentance (Taubat) in Islam is not merely a request for forgiveness, but a holistic spiritual transformation that encompasses awareness, sincere remorse (nadam), cessation of sin, and a firm resolve to restore one's relationship with Allah (ḥabl min Allāh) as well as with fellow human beings (ḥabl min al-nās). In the modern era, marked by moral crises and the degradation of divine values, repentance serves as the foundation for character building and authentic religious consciousness. This process liberates the heart from the shackles of sin, nurtures sincerity, and leads to the purification of the soul (tazkiyat al-nafs) and the enhancement of piety (taqwā). Its impact is not only personal inner peace and self-restraint but also social: responsibility, integrity, and compassion. Repentance is a dynamic and ongoing renewal that restores human beings to their primordial nature (fiṭrah) as servants of God. It brings divine forgiveness and mercy, and paves the way to true happiness and salvation in this world and the Hereafter.
