Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of tafsir as the main foundation in the development of Islamic educational materials through a qualitative descriptive approach based on literature studies. Tafsir is understood not only as a linguistic explanation of the verses of the Qur'an, but as an epistemological tool that is able to reveal the deep meaning, historical context, and pedagogical implications of the messages of revelation. In the process of preparing Islamic educational materials, tafsir is an important reference to ensure that the values and principles taught are in harmony with the intention of the Qur'an and relevant to the needs of today's students. The results of the study show that tafsir plays a role in clarifying and strengthening the basic principles of Islamic education such as monotheism, morality, justice, balance, and responsibility. In addition, a variety of interpretational approaches, both thematic, tahlili, muqarin, adabi ijtima'i, and tarbawi provide a variety of perspectives that enrich the development of the material to be more comprehensive and adaptive. Furthermore, this study confirms that interpretation has strong relevance in the development of interdisciplinary educational materials. The interpretation of Qur'anic verses opens up opportunities to relate religious lessons with other fields such as science, environment, psychology, history, and digital literacy. Thus, tafsir not only deepens the theological aspect, but also encourages the integration of Qur'anic values in various aspects of life. This study concludes that the integration of tafsir in the development of Islamic educational materials is an essential step to produce meaningful, contextual, and able to form the character of students as a whole.
